About Us

Dedicated Staff

Elm Park teachers are first aid/CPR certified and have backgrounds in early childhood education.  They pass background checks and are encouraged to continue training in the field.  Our teachers are trained to use positive reinforcement and redirection in the classroom for behavior modification.

Our teachers are dedicated to Elm Park's mission to prepare children academically, socially, and emotionally to enter the Poway Unified School district.

First-Rate Curriculum

Elm Park Preschool uses Zoo-phonics for phonemic awareness, pre-writing, pre-reading, and spelling skills.  Zoo-phonics is aligned with the California state standards and the Poway Unified School District and uses a playful format to teach sequential, developmental, and age appropriate content.  Elm Park also uses Mother Goose Curriculum to teach core content standards.  Mother Goose is also aligned with state and PUSD standards.

Incoming students are observed and/or informally assessed; progress is monitored throughout the year.  Elm Park strives to prepare students for the Poway Unified School District while also encouraging the child's natural love of learning in a warm, nurturing environment.  Children thrive in our small classes geared for kindergarten readiness.

Our Mission

Elm Park Preschool prepares young children academically, emotionally, and socially to enter the Poway Unified School District while at the same time encouraging a love of learning in a secure, friendly, and nurturing environment.

Elm Park serves 2 1/2 to 5 year-olds.

At Elm Park we teach to the whole child, with an emphasis on fostering a love of learning while building character development.

Meet the Team

Director/Miss Jen

My name is Jen and I've taught in San Diego County since 1995.  I received a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education in 1994 and a Master of Science in Education in 2001.  I began my teaching career working in a private school in Rancho Santa Fe, worked for the Carlsbad Unified School District, then taught for a charter school for several years.  I enjoyed working with preschool children the most so I opened Elm Park Preschool in 2010 to continue doing what I love best- enriching the lives of preschool children.  I've lived in Poway since 2007 and I am the proud mom of two boys who attend school in Poway.

I think the preschool years are unique and precious.  These important years lay the foundation for learning throughout a child's entire school career.  I believe in making learning fun and exciting; I also recognize the importance of Kindergarten readiness.  I feel it is our job to provide opportunities for our children to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Miss Sharon

Miss Sharon has been teaching in San Diego since 1989.  She has a BA from University of Cape Town and completed her teacher training at the London Montessori Centre.  She loves teaching preschool and is the owner of a children's yoga business.  Her lifelong passion is working with children and finding creative, holistic methods to learn and thrive.

Miss Sharon is originally from South Africa and she has a daughter, Emma, who is in college.  In her spare time, she enjoys doing yoga, listening to music and watching Netflix.

Miss Nancy

Miss Nancy has been volunteering

Miss Modessa

Miss Modessa has enjoyed working with preschoolers since 2014.  She believes that loving guidance is the key to a successful classroom experience.  Modessa has her bachelor's degree in Art and History and she received her early childhood education training in Orange County.

Modessa and her husband are raising two daughers, they attend schools in the PUSD.

Miss Elli

Miss Elli relocated to San Diego from Germany in 2010, she received her early childhood education at Miramar College.  Through play, she believes children can develop better social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain self-confidence which helps them engage in new experiences and different environments.

When not working, Elli enjoys spending time with her husband, gardening, exploring new places & walking.  She also enjoys arts and crafts.
